What is Educational Therapy?

Educational therapy for twice-exceptional students is a one-to-one approach addressing the struggles that a child may experience. It clarifies the issues and places attention on the strategies needed for releasing the child's potential. The process begins with an intake assessment session that highlights the specific area of concern. This information, combined with parent and school information already in place, helps create a total profile of the strengths and areas for growth. A parent conference is scheduled to create a multi-approach plan to develop the child’s full potential. The plan is implemented over time through one-to-one sessions to identify and remedy the issues at hand. Through the process, the child learns how to use new strategies for developing the areas that were once a concern. The goal is total child development regarding his/her personal gifts and talents.

Getting Started with Gifted Education Services

All families begin with a consultation with Dr. Whitney to determine the best plan for the child. Plan to bring some of your child's latest work, as well as any test scores or progress reports you can bring to the session. An individualized plan will be developed between you and Dr. Whitney. Typically weekly sessions are advised, but Dr. Whitney also will work with your family to see what other options might work best. These options can change as the child develops.
